1. The VillageOn the west side of Santo Antão lies the peaceful, sleepy village of Tarrafal. This green oasis is watered by mountain springs, and the long, pristine, black sand beach surrounds a bay rich in sea life. The villagers live primarily from agriculture and fishing. There are a few small shops and bars, a school, a church, and a health center.The high mountains shelter the village from strong winds.
